LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – "The Dark Knight" and "Iron Man," two of the summer's comic book-inspired hits, secured spots on the list of the American Film Institute's 10 outstanding movies of 2008, announced Sunday.

The film-promotion body's other top picks (in alphabetical order) were "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Frost/Nixon," "Frozen River," "Gran Torino," "Milk," "WALL-E," "Wendy and Lucy" and "The Wrestler."

The top 10 TV shows of the year were "Breaking Bad," "In Treatment," "John Adams," "Life," "Lost," "Mad Men," "The Office," "Recount," "The Shield" and "The Wire."

The AFI will honor the creative ensembles behind the films and series at an awards luncheon on January 9.

Two 13-person juries, comprised of critics and other industry notables, deliberated over the weekend to reach the choices.
